Search: new york fashion week

The Style 360 lounge at the Metropolitan Pavillion didn’t just house the Bebe fashion show which I wrote about here, it also showcased this fun photo opp by New York Post, giveaways, and these cute cupcakes.

Darling, aren’t they? You know how I love bows.

The New York Fashion Week photo opp sort of reminded me of last season’s Daily photo opp where fashionistas were encouraged to pose in front of a fake Daily cover.

During the week, I collected a bunch of fashion week goodies – all to giveaway to a lucky FabGabBlog reader like you! Look out for my next post which will give you a chance to win a New York Fashion Week goody bag.

Til then, here are some photos of goodies from seasons past…

From attending NY Fashion Week, I spotted some continuing trends from as far back as fall 2011 and earlier.  One of the continuing trends was the cropped pencil pant which I just adore.  Bebe’s fashion show was a case in point.  You can expect many more slim, cropped styles in prints and solids.  Here were a couple of their basic black options.

Check out my video of the finale below
or view the full-length video shot by Bebe here

I own plenty of Bebe myself so it was exciting to have been able to have scored a front row seat.  All in all, I found the madmen – inspired fashions ladylike and very fabgab.  You may be seeing a few of their pieces in my closet and style diary soon!

Call me Forever 21.  Yesterday was my birthday and on the plane ride home from the Bahamas where I celebrated, I excitedly flipped through my free New York Fashion Week copy of Teen Vogue.  I love teen movies, teeny bopper music and I love me some Teen Vogue.  What can I say?  The magazine reminded me of the fun time I had visiting their New York Fashion Week Haute Spot.

Here’s a clip of what I saw inside.

You’ll see from their list of events that there was a lot going on.  At the time I was there, they were just finishing up a model open call with IMG and a line was forming for a personal appearance from some Disney star that I never heard of.

What I particularly enjoyed were the fashion trend stations alongside the room’s perimeter.  The 3-D displays were adorable, weren’t they?  They were styled and laid out like giant pages out of the Teen Vogue magazine.

These “prim and proper” and “school girl luxe” boards seemed the most “me.”

But I can see myself wearing bits and pieces from all of these boards!  I guess I am truly Forever 21...strange being that I just celebrated my 30 something birthday..

Speaking of which, every birthday, I give away something on my blog.  This year, I’m giving away the vintage red peplum dress that I wore to the Teen Vogue event shown below and here.

Just subscribe, post an announcement on  your FB, blog and/or twitter about why you love FabGabBlog and you could win the dress!  Leave me a link or links as comments here and please remember to leave your email  -otherwise I won’t be able to contact you as the winner.  Each post brings you closer to winning the dress.  Entrants must live in the U.S.  Contest ends after 50 comments have been made.   I’m also considering all offers for the black calfskin leather Chanel purse pictured here!

waiting to hear from you….

If you see yourself here, please comment with your outfit details!  This is part 3 to my New York Fashionista-round-up from New York fashion week. So if you don’t see yourself here, and you know I shot ya, check out post 1, and post 2 before you get mad.

“Who wears short shorts?” As the Nair commercial sings, who wears short shorts, this girl screams that she does with her bright orange pair.  I like that she balanced out the shortness of her bottom with a longer sleeved, classic white blouse.

This fashionista had the same idea pairing her short shorts with a white longer-sleeved blouse.  Aren’t you loving the shoes and the Chanel?

Running along the same shorts and white blouse theme, Alexa Winner, a NY stylist, stuck out from the crowd even across the way when I spotted her at one of the fashion shows.  She told me her blouse was from Thailand when I asked if it was vintage.  I love how she modernized and Westernized it with the jean cut-offs and leopard pumps.

This fashionista had a cool French accent.  I loved her blazer and thought her oxfords were so unique!

Lace is a big fall trend this year.  This fashionista proves that lace doesn’t have to look traditional or “grandma.”  She balanced out its frilliness with a modern black blazer, added sparkly shoes and fun ethnic earrings which gave the whole look a quirky new spin.  I love it.  For  more inspiration on how to wear white lace and see how others wear their white lace dresses, check out my earlier blog post.

Oh my gosh, I just realized that I shot this blonde fashionista twice on two separate days.  I guess I really do like her style! haha, she is the one wearing that fab lace blouse in this post above!  Ok so which outfit / look do you like more on her?

This woman’s sleek and minimalist look really interested me.  I found her so chic. What do you think?  I would love to know how long this Canadian stylist lasted in those fab heels.  Those look like the 2-3hour type.  Fashion week is hard on your feet, ladies!  I know I planned out each day’s outfit by examining the shows’ locations, how far I’d have to walk combined with the estimated time in line that I’d have to stand + how many hours I could teeter in each potential pair of shoes.  It’s a complicated fashion equation.

This woman was wearing so many of this season’s trends -and wearing them right!  Check out her cute cropped pants, the cross-body purse and her take on “geek chic!”  I love geek chic and wrote about it when it first came out here.

Speaking of cross-body purses, check out this fashionista’s simple but graceful look.  I loved that it looked vintage-inspired and featured the cute bow with a little bit of sparkle.  It looked totally like something I might wear.

As part II to my earlier Spring 2012 New York Fashion Week fashionistas post, this post will feature fashionistas caught by my FabCam.  For those of you who don’t already know, I shoot fellow fashionistas whose style I admire and take interest in.  There’s no fashion bashing here.  It’s all love!

Below is a lovely blonde who was wearing what looked like a vintage-styled blouse with Fall’s trendy snakeskin and the Valentino shoes that I’ve been dying for.

The blonde pictured above is a fellow blogger.  What caught my eye about her (besides her striking beauty) was that striking leather jacket.  But I love how she paired it with a swingy, simple dress, cute booties and a clutch that offered a bright pop of color.

Okay, so there are a lot of blonde beauties walking the tents of New York Fashion Week.  This one was a bit of a risk taker.  Check out those shoes!  They’re what I’d imagine an ultra-fabulous astronaut might rock.  I thought her outfit was super fun in that stunning color with the polka dots peeking out – polka dots are super trendy this fall.

I’m looking at this one and I’m thinking, model?  She certainly had the height and skinniness down and like much of whom you saw within the tents was some amazing eye candy.  Don’t you love her mustard colored Prada?  Mustard is a trend color this fall and this girl included it with professional ease.  The little fitted jacket looks great with the printed dress (is that Missoni?) and paired with those funky boots.

If you’re a regular reader, you know how I love Chanel purses and the black and white color theme so it’s no wonder this fashionista’s outfit caught my eye.  In Rachel Zoe’s words, those booties are “ba.na.nas!”  Readers, you should know that I’m up for selling my Chanel, calf-skin, chain-link purse.  just click here to check it out!

Since I’m on a roll with the blondes, I figured I’d make it the running theme of this FabCam post.  This lovely blonde reminded me of me.  She made a boo boo under her left knee!  I wore a band-aid like this for weeks after falling in my heels.  I blame the uneven concrete sidewalk.  (should have sued lol)  But ok back to the fashion.  Do you not love the mix of rough and casual (i.e. the military jacket) next to the elegant silk sheath and sparkly necklace?  Talk about casual cool.

Ok so who is your favorite?

If you were featured here, please leave a comment and tell us who you’re wearing and how much you paid for each item!  Adoring fans want to know!

Every fashion week, I spot well-dressed fashionistas with my FabCam and post here for my lovely readers.  Here is this year’s round-up of the best dressed fashion friends!  If you’re one of the lucky fashionistas featured, please leave a comment with your outfit description.  We wanna know who you’re wearing, how much you bought it for and any other details you care to share.

Leave it to two Asian fashionistas (spotted at the Concept Korea event that I wrote about) to rock designers purses.

These lovely ladies wore matching shoes and updos -gotta love that!  They were super sweet and I was loving their looks.

This twosome was adorable.  I loved the bow blouse and Chanel vintage purse on the lady in the left of this picture.  And I loved the shoes, bow dress and nerd glasses on the other fashionista – so geek chic!

Ok, if you guessed that these skinny giants were not mere mortals but rather models, you guessed right!  They were straight out of the Tribune fashion presentation which I will write about tomorrow.  Their personal style was cool, carefree and effortless.

Check back for my next FabCam entries on baby fashionistas spotted at NY fashion week as well as fashionistas, spotted on their own! So much eye candy!

Let’s face it.  We’re all checking each other out during fashion week.   Step foot anywhere near the fashion week tents and you’re basically welcoming the once-over.   New York Fashion Week took it one step further this year with the introduction of the Bumbys.  Honestly, I had no idea who they were at first but found myself instantly  intrigued as I walked over to their Fiji sponsored booth.  I mean who wouldn’t be curious seeing this blue duo furiously typing away on their outdated typewriters?  I mean,” hello, do you not see everyone else twittering away on their mobile phones and blogging away nearby at the press pit?”  “And what’s up with the smurf-like disguise,” I wondered.

Then I read the sign which explained why they were there.  “Fiji Water Presents A Fair and Honest Appraisal of Your Appearance.”  I laughed out loud when I read that these two were positioning themselves as fashion authorities but like the rest of the fashionistas in line, I couldn’t resist a fair and honest appraisal of my appearance as I anxiously stepped in line.   It was the most fun line any of us had stood in all week.   I wondered out loud whether the Bumbys were more Joan Rivers or Giuliana Depandi.

I took it as a good sign that nobody left the line crying.  What would they think of my outfit though?  Had I dressed to their liking?  Will they know that I only spent less than $150 on the entire outfit?  Will I be booted out of fashion week?  Panic shot through me as I nervously waited for the male bumby’s blue nails to stop typing.

Here’s my appraisal!

9.2!  woohoo, I’ll take that.  Here’s an excerpt from another fair and honest appraisal.

“You win hottest beard in the room. Dude, we’re in Dallas. You think we’ve slept together, but we haven’t. But just so you know, I WOULD totally give in, like totally on the first date. You should call my manager and take me out and let me use your hair products in the morning. Stop being such a total girl, Euroman. Overall: when silent, 9.4″

And yet another.  I can’t get enough!

Jill and Gill.  On behalf of all the New York Fashion Week fashionistas, thank you for your fair and honest appraisals.

Gone are the good ole’ days when fashion week meant a cabinet re-filled with fashionable freebies.  Below is a sentimental sample of what one week of fashion shows USED to yield.

Yes, that’s DKNY branded champagne, and no free magazines weren’t included in this pictorial summary.

My favorite freebies were always the certificates for spa, restaurant and gym experiences.

northwest at fashion show north west

Unlike Northwest, my minifashionista does not whine, squirm and cry when waiting for a fashion show to start.  Quite the opposite, she giggles with nearby (new) friends, tries out her own runway walk, and claps and bops to the music.

Post-fashion show, she can’t seem to get enough and asks to see more videos of her experience.  And she does this EVERYDAY.  Just like mommy, she can’t seem to get enough of fashion week.  Here are some of of the looks from our favorite fashion show this year, Little Miss Galia.

imoga finale

The clothes from Miss Galia’s collection looked special, luxe and girly.  I loved the styling details with the birdcage veils, gloves and fur collar toppers and want to dress Juliet in each and every look.  This is the brand to shop if your little girl wants a little glam!

Finally, here is a great video wrap-up of Petite Parade’s Kids Fashion Week.  (We are at the 55 second mark).

I submitted Juliet’s pictures on a whim to the Lil Jewels Boutique model search on Instagram despite the model call asking for kids 6 and over.  So much to my surprise, at 4 years old, and even with 4000 entries, Juliet was chosen as the youngest model to get to walk the New York Fashion Week runway for her couture kids collection.  I told Juliet she was chosen because she was a good listener and so well behaved 🙂 and she was psyched!

We’ve enjoyed watching kids fashion shows and women’s shows during NYFW ever since she was a baby, and always from the sidelines.  I couldn’t believe my very own baby would be ON the runway this time!  And what a runway it was!!  Here is Juliet posing pre-show.

This tremendously long runway was unlike the last runway Juliet crawled (at 10 months old) for Old Navy and so I was a little concerned with how she would do especially given the girls weren’t given the opportunity to rehearse together.

Backstage, I was able to cover as media and watch all the adorable shenanigans.  It was like a pastel tutu explosion in there!

Juliet made lots of friends while waiting for her 15 minutes of fame.

Juliet said she felt like she was in a princess story and that it looked like everyone was getting dressed for the ball.

She enjoyed getting all glammed up with hair and makeup and like a superstar, waited patiently in a cramped and crowded room.  Yana, the designer was terrific with all the girls, engaging them by playing a round of Q&A talking about favorite colors and princesses.  You could tell that she genuinely loved little girls.  It’s no wonder she dresses them so gorgeously!

When the time came to line up and wait for our turn on the catwalk, Juliet held my hand and told me (unprompted), “Mommy, I’m gonna be brave like (princess Merida)”

She was visibly excited to take her turn down the catwalk.

By the way, aren’t the dresses to die for?? So sophisticated yet adorable at the same time!  I was in love! Here’s the runway finale!

After the show, Juliet explained to me how it was time to return her beautiful dress, just like Cinderella did after the ball. I found it hilarious that she in her head was re-enacting Cinderella’s post-midnight story as she slipped back into her “regular clothes.”  Here she is in those regular clothes..

Gotham Hall, a downtown venue that I’ve previously frequented for galas, benefits and other fashion shows will have new meaning and fond memories for me now.

Thanks Yana and the Lil Jewels Boutique team for selecting Juliet!  It was an honor to represent your brand and a dream come true to walk NYFW!
