As a parent, you always think you know what’s best.  But with toys, it’s sort of a guessing game picking and choosing what you think your child will love.  Sometimes you’ll find that the child is more interested in the box and packing materials that the toy came in than the toy itself.  Sometimes, your child seems excited at first but then quickly bores of the new item and moves on leaving you losing all confidence in buying items that will really entice him/her in the long run.

This is why Green Pinata, is such an innovative subscription plan!

green pinataGreen Pinata does the research for you and finds well-designed, educational toys for your child to try out.  The toxin-free toys in each “piñata” come from reputable companies such as Greentoys, HABA, Plan Toys, and Hape.  $24.99/month gets you a new box every month. Use the toys for as long as you wish, and keep anything you love.  Green Piñata only charges 30% off the kept toy’s Amazon price!  (What a deal!)

Juliet and I had so much fun unboxing our pinata! It’s the perfect gift to give that new mom or picky child!  And it’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Each toy is carefully chosen to be developmentally appropriate.  This toy for instance, challenged Juliet to use her fine motor skills to accurately place the wooden number onto the corresponding card’s puzzle piece sort of indentation which promoted number recognition, counting and number sequence.  After she was able to place all the numbers, I was happy to find that she was also able to arrange the cards in the correct sequence without my help – smarty pants!

green pinata toys

She just turned 3 last weekend but already counts to 30 on her own!  We’re moving onto 40.

The lacing beads from Plan Toys were fascinating to her because it was the first time she found herself being able to turn her toy into an accessory.  The colorful wooden beads not only promoted a conversation about color, shape and counting, but they also challenged her to string them all together, something her tiny 3 year old hands surpringly got the hang of.  And soon enough, she had made herself a new necklace – what a perfect toy for a minifashionista!

The magnetized maze within fish form proved to be mesmerizing because she had never tried such a board game before.  Plus she loves Nemo and this reminded her of her fishy little friend!

Puzzles are a classic.  And since Juliet likes puzzles but tends to bore of them, I was happy to find this age-appropriate puzzle in her pack.

Overall, we were impressed with the entire subscription box and would highly recommend it.  If you want to give it a try, use discount code GP83237 for $10 off of first month

What do you think?  Would you try this out?

Getting the mail is so much more exciting nowadays with the advent of subscription box services.  Suddenly in addition to the usual spam and bills, I pick up celebrity chef designed foods, kids toys and fashions.  This blog post is a review of Sprouting Threads, the latest styling service geared to kids aged 2-8.

Sprouting-Threads-December-2015-box

They send you a box full of clothes hand-picked for you based on the style profile you submitted online (a fun and easy pictorial Q&A).

www.sproutingthreads.com_2016-02-19_18-48-05

It gives the members options of frequency, quantity & assortment to meet your needs. The $20 styling fee can be credited toward a purchase of two or more new items – keep what you want and return the rest for free (return label is included just in case).  You can opt for monthly or seasonal deliveries and can receive between 2 and 5 outfits per delivery.  Prices vary depending on what is kept. Appaman, Tea and Andy & Evan are just a few of the popular boutique brands that they work with.  Below is a plaid “Blue Pony Vintage” Sprouting Threads dress that we styled with a H&M fur vest, Old Navy tights and Fab Kids fringe boots. Juliet wore this outfit to her friend’s birthday party.

IMG_0694

The service is a great way to introduce yourself to new brands that you may be unfamiliar with.  The below “Go Gently Baby” mock turtleneck dress for instance was so cute paired with a blazer, sneakers, tights and a purse already in our closet.

IMG_0707

Juliet looked extra studious wearing this getup to school.

One of the full outfits that we chose to keep included this plaid flannel blouse and cordoroy pant set from Tea.  Here you see it paired with classic boots, a Gap ear headband and gifted sunglasses and stuffed animal.

This was her on the way to the candy shop – cool and always ready to pose for momarazzi.

Today for school, she sported the comfy fuschia leggings found in our subscription box.  It’s by Tooby Doo.  And here it’s paired with a Jcrew coat and First Impressions Baby tee.

Her smile here perfectly replicated mine when I received this fashionable box of goodies.

The unique feature with Sprouting Threads is how sustainable of a brand they are.  They promote re-using and re-cycling of clothes, something I’m also an advocate of.   When your child has outgrown an item, you can return it for 20% credit toward your next package.  And you can also send in your gently used kids fashions (not originally sent by Sprouting Threads) in for a possible credit to their service.  For more information, visit Sprouting Threads and receive 25% off your first box with code “STELLA25.”   Let me know what you think!

Full disclosure.  This post was sponsored by Sprouting Threads. I received a complimentary subscription box to facilitate my review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

It’s always exciting to try out new kid services and fashion programs so when I was asked by Kid Things to try out their new text shopping solution for busy parents I jumped at the chance!  If shopping on the go and partnering with a professional stylist sounds intriguing to you too, you should try it out!  All it takes is is entering your cell into their website GetKidThings.com (you won’t get spammed with ads or be pressured into any sales).

get kid things

I tried this process and was immediately greeted by a friendly stylist named Michelle who happily searched through the brands they work with to help me with my request.

kid things, kids stylist, stylist

They select from trusted, quality brands such as the ones below.

kid things, kid brands, kids fashion, kids clothes

And their stylists are available pretty much 24/7 to answer all your styling needs, and to offer options that fit your needs.  I imagine that it would be the perfect thing for busy moms on the go who either find it hard to keep up with their children’s ever-changing sizing and styling needs and/or for the mom who doesn’t particularly enjoy shopping.  I personally love shopping for kids’ clothes and enjoy the styling but I still benefited from the service.

I sent her a photo of a couple of shorts that I needed tops for along with a general request to see some casual dress options for my 4 year old to play in this summer.  We went back and forth with about 20 pictured pieces until I got exactly what I loved.

kids styling, kids fashion, texting, fashion delivery

And it was great because the options were pre-edited.  Instead of wasting time browsing 10 brands’s sites, I found myself feeling extra productive getting my to do list done while this stylist browsed and edited the 10 sites for me.  It’s quite the VIP experience having an on-call stylist on hand!

Kid Things styles for newborns – 9 year old children, offers free shipping for orders over $100 and allows you to track your shipment.  Plus they’ve partnered with Educare, a non-profit kids’ education charity to donate a portion of their proceeds so you can feel good knowing your shopping benefits those in need.  What do you think?  Would you use Kid Things?  Stay tuned for my follow-up post where I show you what we chose and how we styled the pieces!

I received product in exchange for this review but as always the opinions expressed are 100% my own.

It’s always fun to get to see and hang out with my fellow NY mom bloggers but even more fun when I get to host it with fab title sponsors, Meisterdish and JennAir!  On March 20th, we gathered at the beautiful JennAir showroom on 59th street and collaboratively cooked up a storm using Meisterdish’s easy to follow recipes and instructions.

Meisterdish washes, cuts and delivers the freshest ingredients to your door and promises a gourmet meal in as little as 8 minutes! (currently serving Midtown East and UES with plans to expand soon).  I love this!  No more crying over chopped onions!  AND I get to look like a gourmet chef in minutes?!  DSC_8338It’s perfect for busy moms on-the-go who are tired of meal planning, and feeling the need to mix their menus up!  They have a terrific selection of options to fit every taste and dietary restriction.  And their Executive Chef hails from NY’s famed, Daniel restaurant!  Pretty impressive!  We all got to taste test a variety of their foods at the event AND take home a box to cook later!

Possibly the best and most surprising thing about this service is that it isn’t subscription based like the others.  No obligation and no pressure to conform to a set # of dinners to cook fits well into my unpredictable and event-filled lifestyle! DSC_8302

Thanks to all the influential NY mommy bloggers who joined us for this little lunch!  DSC_8333

And thanks to JennAir for letting us enjoy their beautiful kitchen appliances and showroom space! Card a Mom was on-site welcoming guests and introducing  everyone to their clever app which helps moms get in touch with and meet other moms sort of Match.com style.

I wrote about my awkward experiences initially trying to make mom friends on my own here and really wish this handy app was around back then!  If you’re a mom, you NEED THIS!

mom friends Hope McGrath, a transformational life coach and stylist was also on hand addressing moms’ most pressing questions concerning everything from business, to balance, to wardrobe.  Everyone loved her grounded advice and insightfulness.  As her friend of 10(?) years, I can personally attest to her genuineness, great listening skills, and stellar style.  Check out the many ways she can help you achieve your goals on her site here.

There’s something about ending a summer with a white party that I just love.  I’ve been hosting these Kids’ White parties for 3 years now and they just get bigger and better each year.  This year, with Mialandyn’s cool kids’ teepees in mind, I titled the party, Summer Glamp and found the perfect venue for our glamping theme.  180 Maiden Lane has this beautiful atrium space with an indoor lawn, palm trees, and tree stump stools.  It was the perfect place to go glamp!  It was like being surrounded by the beautiful outdoors while being shielded from any unwanted outdoor elements -no mosquitos, wind and hair frizz!

white party

The venue had me so inspired, I became a poet when I didn’t even know it!  Here was the invite, written by me and designed by Little Web Writing Hood who is helping me re-design this blog as we speak!

Guests who arrived first, won door prizes and were greeted by our glamping guitarist who sang and filled the room with her beautiful voice. Campfire chats and singalongs, anyone?

Decor consisted of these white teepees which I decorated with crystals and hid fun finds for the kids inside.  Kids found fashion-forward books with titles like ‘Shoe La La” (one of Juliet’s favorites) and balloons.

To further achieve this glamp scene, I secured campfire toys like a smores marshmallow Playset from Playvisions, and campfire props by Props In a Box.

Can you say Instagram-able?? Check out more event photos on Instagram with our event hashtag #fab_glamp or see the full link of photos here!

Special thanks to our event photographers, Suzanne from Gotham Love, Iping, and Tricia from Toddlewood! Here are some more Props In A Box photo opp areas from the event! What minifashionista can resist dressing up??

Props in a box is such a cool product for your next party or play date combining technology, imaginative play along with its colorful props and backdrops.   Its Movie Maker app equipped with Story Starters allows you to customize your creation with special effects and your own credits. One click of a button can save the memories and allows sharing on social media!  Perfect for our social media savvy moms, right?

As moms mingled and browsed the sponsor tables, they were sure to bump into the friendly Mialandyn Events who was on-site providing tips on how to create a similar luxe look for your next party.  Her table attracted hungry snack-ers who could find waterfall water, camp critter cookies, trail mix, and smores flavored cookies.

There was laughter and joy everywhere.  My face actually hurt from smiling and adoring all these minifashionistas all day!

Super thankful that Project Playdate was on hand to assist with entertaining our little guests with stylin’ storytimes, supersized selfie art, and crafty camp love letters.  They had the sweetest, most creative staff!  Book them for your next event, or babysitting needs!toddler books, books, kids party

As if that wasn’t enough activity, Angela’s Sugar Fix also led a hands-on cookie customization where you got to design your own dress or tie!

Sugar Fix provides these cookie decorating parties and come to you with customized kids’ cookie decorating sets, dessert bar, treats and more!  These littles were infatuated with their desserts.  Check out that smores-flavored cake pop in Juliet’s hands!  You know I love extending the theme wherever possible..

Around the corner, you could learn to design your own flower crown (in white of course to match the theme) with Its By U  which offers fresh flower delivery kits and DIY tutorials to save you up to 80%off your floral bill!

After getting all dolled up, guests were encouraged to meet with casting and production agency NYDK Talent as well as Toddlewood who were on-site meeting and greeting with our insta-famous mini-models in the making.  Toddlewood is currently casting to re-create an Obama family photo so reach out to her if you know lookalikes!  NYDK is constantly helping to cast for top clients including: Gap, Huggies, Old Navy, and more so if you didn’t get the chance at our event to get your picture taken with her, make sure you submit headshots ASAP!

Kidpik, the fashionable kids’ clothing subscription service for girls sized 4-14 was raffling off a fashion set as well as giving away trendy iron on patches in the goody bags and offering free face-painting.  The waitlist for this was endless and the creativity unmatched! DSC_9819

The Glamping guitarist provided by Pine Street Music Studio which offers kids’ music lessons (think piano, guitar, violin or mommy and me classes) really added to the atmosphere and I can’t thank Lea enough for being such an amicable partner.  white party, nyc white partySpecial thanks also goes out to our goody bag sponsors Colleen Rothschild Skincare, Jamberry Nails, and Chaise Fitness!  Until Monday, September 12th, you can all get 20%off any regular priced Colleen Rothschild Skincare product with code ‘GAB20.”

White parties have a certain elegance and excitement surrounding them.  They signal summertime, celebrations and …P.Diddy.  And what’s cooler than P.Diddy?  I’ve waited years for P.Diddy’s white party invite but strangely, have yet to receive one so I decided it was time to host one!  I figured it would be a great chance to use all the white decor I already had lying around the house.  You know, the stuff my husband nags me about not using enough of i.e.cake plates, platters and other frivolous items that he doesn’t understand.  But other than trying to prove him wrong, I just wanted to bring people together and enjoy the last bit of summer.  Anyone who knows me I love finding a reason (any reason) to celebrate.  Extending and celebrating summer sounded like a good enough reason to celebrate as any!

I thought it would be cute to anniversary last year’s white themed play date in the park and invite moms and their kids.  Every mom appreciates a fun reason to dress-up and meet up elsewhere other than the usual park / playground.  This time though, the event would be more formalized, with a dinner spread and even florals and candles. (gettin’ fancy here!)

Here’s how to create a white party of your own:

1).  Ask guests to dress in all-white! The stricter you are with this requirement, The better the pictures and the better the ice-breaking.

white party2). Feature white furniture and/or table linens (white gift wrap, contact paper, plastic table covers, sheets, drapes and blankets all work too!)white party nyc IMG_7681 IMG_7683

3).  Serve white beverages (We had sake, white wine, sparkling cider, white grape juice, and water)

what to serve at a white party IMG_7650

water

The branded waters were repurposed sheets of party circles meant as cupcake toppers, designed by That Party Chick.

4).  Serve white foods and snacks.  I served sushi rolls, Japanese chicken and udon noodles, pork dumplings, cheese and crackers, white dip for veggies, and hummus with veggie chips, and popcorn). Kids’ white snacks included Mum Mums and Trader’s Joe’s cereal bars (both of which had white packaging and were served upright in clear vases).

Other non-white foods like the edamame and seaweed salad were served on white platters that showcased the Rocksbox promo code ‘FabGabBlog’ which all my guests were entitled to for a free month jewelry subscription.

5).  Have white desserts (For this party, I presented white frosted cupcakes, marshamellows, powdered sugar doughnut holes, white rock candy swizzle sticks, white yogurt covered raisins, animal crackers and white macaron puffs).

The white rock candy swizzle sticks were a hit amongst the kids!  But who doesn’t love these??

6). White decor -Besides my white ruffle linen, I brought down pillar candles and 3 silk hydrangea vases from my living room along with some white baroque frames and set them along the white marble communal table that was already at the rooftop terrace.

kids white party

7).  Create a white photo backdrop – I set up a simple white banner backdrop with some cardstock and a strip of fuzzy white yarn found on clearance at Michael’s.  You could also hang white: balloons, Chinese lanterns, drape, crepe paper …the list goes on…

white dresses

These besties were hamming it up for us!

white party for kids

For fun, I had some photo props for guests to use if they liked.

photo booth props

Get toddlers grouped together for a photo by sitting them atop a bench that is just high enough for them to not want to try and jump off.  I learned this terrific tip from my professional photographer friend who took half these photos for us, Gotham Love!

how to throw a white party

8).  For kids’ entertainment, I had asked parents to bring a silent toy or two that their kids wouldn’t mind sharing.  And I had a bubble maker and white blown – up balloons for them to play catch on – site for the kids.  But music (if the venue would have allowed) and games would have been great additional add-ons.  For our party, the WHITE noise of the waterfall and children’s laughter in the background was our music.

For the parents, I thought that a confessional round where each guest reveals a white lie they recently told would be fun too – maybe next time!
