Fab Finds

It takes a lot for me to motivate, get to the gym and workout.  I don’t like to sweat.  What can I say… Buuuuut when Mom Trends mentioned I would get compensated to workout at Exhale Spa in the Gansevoort hotel, I was sold.  After all my booty could use a kick in the ass, I figured.  So thanks to our sponsor, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, I found myself contorting, squatting, crunching, lunging, and yes, sweating.

Not sure what to expect other than to be tired that morning, I gulped down some coffee and arrived early to check out the impending torture chamber, er I mean classroom.  Alas I soon found out that I had nothing to be worried about.  The teacher was super friendly and gave me that extra jolt of energy and support I needed.

By the time the rest of the classroom filled, I felt the full support of all the moms in tow.  It felt fun working out with such a community around me!

Here I am praying I make it through the whole class!

The mixture of different movements was a challenge but actually didn’t leave me drenching in sweat (which is a good thing in my book!)

It was more like a steady tension in all my muscles with the class pushing my boundaries and stretching my comfort zones.  Such simple moves yet so effective.

barre workout

These planks and ab crunches were the most challenging for me.  Does anyone else post c-section feel like their abs will never be back to shape?  My ab muscles (after being sliced up and sewn back together), just do not work like they used to.  Here I am trying my hardest to hold it together..

The Boudreaux’s Butt Paste press release says it’s “tough on diaper rash, gentle on baby’s booty.”  Well I can tell YOU that this butt paste – inspired booty class was NOT gentle on MINE.  I got an intense workout that I will surely feel for days.  This was maximum strength for sure!

diaper cream, boudreaux

I love this diaper cream and used it a lot during Juliet’s younger days.  The flip top is a smart new feature and I love that it provides the thickest barrier of protection with 40% zinc oxide, free of dyes, parabens, preservatives, phthalates and talc.  Safe and smart, it’s pediatrician (and Fab Gab) recommended!

Post workout ,we enjoyed tasty treats, a mini massage and some fun photo opps.  Oh if only those perks came with every workout perhaps I’d be doing it more…

Thanks so much for the invite, MomTrends! It was a kick-ass way to end the week!

As a mom, you find that your shopping sprees revolve around your children, especially if you have a little princess (‘cuz who can resist tiny baby girl fashions?)  What used to be my shoe budget has gone towards toddler outfits and accessories too cute to pass up!  So when mommy (finally) does get to go shoe shopping, getting the look for less is top of mind.  So here are some examples of how you can update your shoe wardrobe on a budget. I’m going to focus my attention on Altuzarra shoe styles since that brand is my current obsession

shoes, shoe lover, shoe deals

You may have noticed that revised gladiators are all the rage these days.  By that I mean,  instead of just seeing the up-the-calf, wind-up lace shoes, you’re seeing shorter revised versions where they lace up the front of the foot and/or just up the ankle.  I love this style for its edginess and wearability.  These are far more versatile than the traditional gladiators.  While I do love the designer high-end ones on the left by Atuazarra, the Forever Link shoes ‘black Ryann Ankle Strap flats are the same look  at Zulily for a fraction of the price.

shoe trends, altuzarra shoes

I have a weakness for heels.  My heart skipped a beat when I saw these stunning fringe Altuzarra sandals at Saks.  Aren’t these just so FUN?  I’d build an entire outfit based around these shoes. But who am I kidding?  I’m not about to fork over nearly $800 for a pair of red heels.

fringe trend, altuzarra red shoes

With a little bit of searching, I was able to find these Steve Madden lookalikes on one of my favorite online destinations, Asos.com!

Another festive Altuzarra shoe that caught my eye were these pom pom sandals.  The pom pom trend is HUGE.  It’s everywhere from hats to purses, to keychains and shoes.  I just couldn’t believe how similar this pair on Ebay was!pom pom comparison

Of course, if you wanted to get crafty, I imagine that this wouldn’t be too hard to DIY with a glue gun too…

So there you have it!  Fashionista fab finds!  What will you do with all your saved money?

target wonderland nyc
Holiday shopping with a toddler in tow is not usually something I’d recommend.  But Target has revolutionized the experience with its Target Wonderland in the Meatpacking District of NYC and it has made it a must-do!  The futuristic, Willy Wonka style product playground is worth exploring, take it from my 2.5-year-old, minifashionista.  The playful, interactive and over-sized displays sparked wonderment and a sense of adventure in both of us. Pictured below is where we picked up Christmas tree shaped, chocolate-covered rice krispy treats (of which Juliet refused to share with me ‘cuz they were just that good).

In addition to this ginormous light-up switch (which really did activate) we found an enormous Etch – A – Sketch which transposed your photographed image onto it, a life-sized boat made of Legos, and Elsa’s frozen palace (see below).

Juliet loved choosing and getting her glittery snowflake tattoo within the confines of Elsa’s palace and was giddy with delight as she discovered each new area.

There were fun surprises around every corner!IMG_0212

What was great as a shopper was that you were able to literally test-drive a couple of the more expensive items on many kids’ wishlists this year (drones or these cool cars that use a smartphone app).

target wonderland ny the-location-has-a-hands-on-testing-space-for-drones.jpg

My toddler’s all-time favorite spot however was the ball pit.  It was shallow enough to avoid scaring her and pretty enough to inspire some Instagram-able selfies.

ball pit

We went on a Tuesday afternoon and were the only ones in the pit at times which was a wonderful, surreal NY experience for us.  I found myself having peaceful ‘Calgon take me away’ moments as I sunk slowly into the depths of the pearly pit. Juliet and I had a ball!

Overall, Target Wonderland, offered enough interactivity and creative discovery for my toddler to tire herself out in exploratory fun.  And it showcased enough cool technology to make you feel you were shopping in the future (i.e. getting to Skype St. Nick, finding presents by waving your arms around to control a video game, digital shopping and photo emailing with RFID).

Top tips if you go with kids:

  • Go during the weekday (through Dec. 22; Mon -Sat. 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Sun., 10 a.m. – 6 p.m)
  • Find fast, cheap eats across the street at Chelsea Market (Target Wonderland is at 70 10th Avenue at 15th Street)
  • There’s stroller parking right outside the entrance and a diaper changing station at the entrance area but no bathrooms
  • Have the kids create a free custom engraved ornament as a keepsake (by the ball pit)
  • Bring your camera or have your cell charged up ‘cuz you won’t want to miss these photo opps

It was a wintery, snowy morning in NY when a fellow mommy friend and I trekked out to Brooklyn on a Little Swappies treasure hunt.  I rarely venture out to the outer Manhattan boroughs but the draw of kids fashion and the opportunity to trade-in some of Juliet’s gently worn items for a good cause compelled me to go.

littleSwappies-Event-400x400

I’m so glad I did!  In addition to the sponsored goody bag filled with snacks and promotional discounts, I found 20 items (toys, books and fashion pieces) that were in great shape.  They must have increased the maximum take-home number because last time I went I only brought back 9 things.  Click here for that blog post which includes tips on what you should know before you go.

If you are familiar with my blog, you know that I love a good deal and enjoy mixing high and low brands.  Well the same goes for baby fashion.  Juliet’s closet is a mix of high-end designer, consignment/thrift/hand me downs, and everyday brands.  The below outfit is a prime example.

IMG_1391

The designer, mini-melissa shoes which I bought during an online sample sale are mixed with the free tank top that I scored at Little Swappies and a Baby Masala bottom from their Little Swappies sponsor sample sale.   I mixed it in with accessories already in Juliet’s closet and boom, new summer outfit for just $5!

minifashionista

Also found at the same sample sale was this cute Baby Masala dress for $5 which I accessorized with a mustard scarf that I’m selling through my FB page, Fab kids and their stylish moms, Old Navy boots and a pair of sunglasses gifted from Love My Alannah whom I met at Kids Fashion Week.  (I wish I could remember the brand’s name so I could tag them here!)  The leather jacket is from Target’s sale and the rabbit, gifted from Kid Robot.

IMG_1390

Thinking of the same leather jacket, I bought this Baby Masala dress for $5.  The brand is all organic by the way!  The boots are from Target, the book was gifted and the glasses are on sale at Fab kids and their stylish moms FB page. The flower crown is from H&M and altered to fit J.  If you see an elastic accessory outside of the kids section, remember that it can easily be altered to fit the little one!chanel baby

This Carter’s cardi was found at the Little Swappies event and styled with items already in Juliet’s closet, a black knit skirt, (fake) kids Chanel purse, shoes bought at a sample sale and head piece from Aldo.  So sophisticated, huh?spring dress

This sweet Laura Ashley dress caught my eye because I’m a sucker for Peter Pan collars and smocking detail.  I was psyched to find this at the Little Swappies event and styled it at home with Juliet’s Mini Melissa rhino boots (bought on sale), my cell phone cover and a flower crown from Forever 21.baby outfit

Anyone that follows my Instagram account, @fabgabblog knows that I love dressing Juliet in androgynous looks.  I mix boys clothes and accessories with girly pieces for a cute mix of masculine/feminine.  The above is a prime example.  Tee was free from Little Swappies and the Carters romper and hat are from TJMaxx.  She’s a Maxxinista like me after all!  The purse is from Target and the sneakers are boys shoes from a second hand store that I bought for $2. cute baby clothes

I couldn’t believe my luck when I found this classic, crisp white blouse at Little Swappies.  It was in perfect condition and featured the Peter Pan collar that I love so much!  It is such a versatile piece and I knew I could layer it and wear it a million different ways…oops I mean Juliet could.  I am living through her.  The mask is also a free find from there and it is paired with Baby Gap boots and raincoat along with a vintage short/bowtie set bought off of Etsy – one of my favorite sites for unique baby fashion.  Who says baby girls can’t wear bowties??how to style a tutu

This outfit would be so cute for a birthday party, wouldn’t it?  The hat is actually something Juliet wore on her first birthday.  Click here to find out how her birthday outfit inspired the entire party’s decor.

Right now is the season when Juliet’s social calendar gets crazy packed with birthday parties and I can totally imagine her bouncing around in this cute ensemble.  With this giant party hat though she might steal the spotlight…  Here, the monkey onesie was the freebie from LS and it is paired with a Zara cardigan also worn here, Joe Fresh tutu, scarf and socks that can be bought through me and my FB page. Shoes were from a sample sale and from a brand called Stella – gotta love that since that is my first name!catimini

The high-end Catimini fur vest and Tahari plum ruffled dress here is styled with a free flower crown from LS and Baby Gap boots.  The Harajuku – mini head is an applique from Etsy and the party animals are items I DIY-ed for Juliet’s upcoming party animal themed 2nd birthday.  Wait til you see the rest!

In addition to these fab fashion finds, I also picked up some books and a Mickey toy.  I think it’s safe to say that I SCORED!  Overall, it was a fun event and I even made some good contacts for my future party sponsor needs.  Did I tell you that I’m running sponsored kids events in Manhattan?  Like Fab Kids and their Stylish Moms on FB and follow @fab_kids on IG for invites and all the fun!

Thanks for reading!

pink dress

Most pregnancy fashion posts center around what to wear while pregnant.  Well here is your guide to what to wear POST-pregnancy.  Because we all know ladies, that the belly bump does not magically disappear as quick as we’d all like!  Surprisingly, all my friends and I have gone down to our pre-pregnancy weight with little to no workout plan but I for one still do not recognize my body.  I may be the same weight as I was before but my belly still looks like it did when I was 2 months pregnant – and my baby is now 13months old so I am out of excuses!

I am however skilled at hiding my post-baby bump until I find the time and motivation to hit the gym.  Since I get asked about this a lot, here are some tips on how to hide the no-baby bump.  Secret – it’s all in the fashion!  Here is a list on what to shop for in and out of your closet:

  • Loose / blousy tops and tunics
  • flowy sweaters and cardigans
  • Layer a Furry vest over one of the above
  • big bows/scarves/statement necklaces to create a focal point around your face and slender neck/shoulders/arms
  • boxier shift dresses
  • A-line skirts
  • peplum tops

Here are some great pictorial examples!

Show off your still-skinny parts too!  Simply revealing your slimmer body parts such as your arms, legs and/or decolletage will give the illusion that the rest of you is just as slender.  For more inspiration and/or to see where each image came from, visit and follow my Pinterest board here!

I’m still not sure what new years eve with a 10 month old is going to look like for me and my family this year.  But I do know that our typical night out in New York City til the wee hours of the morning is probably going to be out of the question.  Perhaps we’ll sip champagne and celebrate in our (finally) newly renovated apartment. Or perhaps we’ll be too exhausted to even do that and simply focus on feeding Juliet yet another bottle of milky milk.

One of the best things about new years is of course choosing the fashion and for THAT (even though they may just be fantasy dresses given I’ll most likely be home), I do have ideas!  Here are some fab finds from one of my favorite sites, Rent the Runway.

Let’s start with the classic black dress.  Here are a couple interesting ones that add a little twist.

If you’re going for a pop of color, try these red or gold gowns.

If you’re going for an elegant yet sexy look, I love this lace formal dress.

I rented jewelry from this site for my wedding as my something borrowed, and would totally recommend Rent the Runway.

I guess being a mommy does change everything.  My obsessions have turned from necklaces to baby bibs.  Shopping for baby is so much fun – even more fun than shopping for yourself, dare I say!  Everything is so darn cute and in my moms words, “irresistible” which explains why grandma can’t seem to pass by a children’s department without coming home with another present for my little Juliet.

Once you start shopping for a little girl like I have though, you quickly start to bore of the generic styles that are offered in most baby departments.  You know, the pink this, pink that… same is true for baby bib shopping.  Most bibs are colored in your typical boy blue, or girly pink and have cute but overused sayings on them like “I love mommy” or “daddy’s girl.”  They’re fine but being the fashionista that I am, I was looking for something a little more special.  After scouring the world over in search of the best baby bibs, I’ve come up with these fab finds from Etsy.com where I like to shop for unique one-of-a-kind pieces.  Here are some vintage styled ones from Jan and Rachael that I recently bought.  Check out their shop for more handmade goodies.

My little doll seems to love the pink one the most.

The pink, personalized bib shown above, can have your sweetie’s name featured next to the necklace for just $12 by Too Cool For Drool.   That is especially nice if your baby has a unique not-often-found name.  (Apple, or North West for example)  And The Posh Pea Boutique has tons of fab patterns for your little lady to choose from (sample bibs on right).

And if you’re into black and white and/or modern patterns, look no further than these shops. (from left to right, Babiese The Posh Pea Boutique and Coral Tree)

Drool-worthy, huh?

I don’t know about you but I’m a fan of Rachel Zoe.  Okay some of you might argue that she’s not the brightest bulb but I think she more than makes up for it in fabulousity.  The lady has endless style.  So when I learned that she had created designer wrapping paper just in time for the holidays the Martha Stewart in me wanted to start my holiday gift shopping early just to start wrapping!

I love that the fashionable fabrics from Rachel Zoe’s fashion collection have been converted to glamorous wrapping paper.   Why haven’t other fashion designers thought of this?

Here’s a fun and fabulous DIY tip:  Save all your broken jewelry, belts and charms -they’re future gift wrapping accessories!  The belt that no longer fits or is out of style one season can be re-used as a fashionable gift wrap in place of the traditional ribbon for example and the lonely remaining earring that has lost its pair can be a great add-on to a velvety bow with just a touch of the glue gun!  This year, why not upgrade your gift-giving with unique 3-D presentation that is so pretty it’s as Rachel Zoe might exclaim, “AH-Mazing!”

Perhaps the best part is that proceeds for these fashionable papers go towards Save the Children.  Head on over the One Kings Lane to purchase!
