Fashion Week

northwest at fashion show north west

Unlike Northwest, my minifashionista does not whine, squirm and cry when waiting for a fashion show to start.  Quite the opposite, she giggles with nearby (new) friends, tries out her own runway walk, and claps and bops to the music.

Post-fashion show, she can’t seem to get enough and asks to see more videos of her experience.  And she does this EVERYDAY.  Just like mommy, she can’t seem to get enough of fashion week.  Here are some of of the looks from our favorite fashion show this year, Little Miss Galia.

imoga finale

The clothes from Miss Galia’s collection looked special, luxe and girly.  I loved the styling details with the birdcage veils, gloves and fur collar toppers and want to dress Juliet in each and every look.  This is the brand to shop if your little girl wants a little glam!

Finally, here is a great video wrap-up of Petite Parade’s Kids Fashion Week.  (We are at the 55 second mark).

petite parade celeb u tot“Who’s she wearing??” seemed to be the question of the night.  As if my baby were on the red carpet being interviewed by E!, I had to rattle off the name brands as quickly as I could remember.  To tell you the truth, she wore a mix of high and low – designer brands with everyday lines.   IMG_0849

At Petite Parade’s kids fashion week day 1 she wore a luxurious, black, shimmer,  fringe dress by Les Tout Petits.  I happened to find it for a steal at Century 21.  It was topped off with an equally fab leopard cape, an incredible find from The Children’s Place.  Who knew they made such high-fashion capes for babies right?  (Sorry but this was purchased almost 2 years ago)  The Chanel-inspired hair piece is an adult – sized wrap from Aldo, and shoes were found at a consignment store for $2. Perhaps the best part of her outfit, is the mini-Chanel cell phone cover that she clutched everywhere she went (including up and down the runway). front row at petite parade

The whole outfit head-to-toe was just $80 including the purse.  fab kids

Here she is sitting with her fab new friends.  Aren’t they just darling?  If you’re pictured here, please leave a comment with YOUR outfit details!  Who are YOU wearing??

On day 2 we went for a lighter look.  Here was Juliet’s street style.

new york minifashionista The shoes are by Stella, a Zulilly find.  The polka-dot tights are from Old Navy, the velvet dress is from Val Max and was another Century 21 designer deal.  I actually had her wear it backwards so that the front bow with pearls was hidden behind the back of her vest.  (It distracted from her vest and other jewelry that I wanted to add).  The fur vest is from Catimini (another Century 21 purchase) and the necklace is mine.

You won’t believe where her bracelets are from.

These leather chain straps actually came from a pair of my ballet shoes!  They were ankle straps that I wrapped twice around each wrist!  Think outside of the box when styling!  And the clip-on mini tulle crown is actually something I’m selling through my FB page.  (They come in various colors and are $15 shipped).

This picture cracks me up because it looks like Juliet is b*tch slapping fellow fashionista, @stillsize2.  “Don’t try to copy MY look!”     IMG_0931Apparently “greige” and fur are IN.  It’s amazing how inspired you can be from seeing all these kids’ highly styled outfits, isn’t it?  Follow me @fab_kids for even more fashion inspiration.  And to see video clips of Petite Parade kids fashion week on IG follow @fabgabblog!

Nothing gets me as excited as Fashion Week in NYC.  Forget my birthday, forget Christmas and the rest of the holidays – it’s Fashion Week that I look forward to.  And as a mom with a 19 month old toddler, Petite Parade and their Kids Fashion Week really speaks to me.  What could be more exciting than babies and minifashionistas showcasing the latest fashions?   It’s like regular fashion week only wayyyyy cuter and without the attitude.

I like to be cheesy and dress a little matchy matchy with my mini-me sometimes.  Okay so maybe a lot.  Forgive me.  It’s pure girly fun.  For the first day of Petite Parade, I went with little black dresses for the both of us topped off with some fall fur.  My husband was worried that I might get cold without a true coat on but I knew that chasing after a toddler would more likely have me sweating than shivering.  I was right.  My Calvin Klein short sleeved dress was the perfect balance to my new fur and quilted leather vest.  Thanks to Scout in the City, another mommy blogger for shooting the below candid of us.

Who knew that I’d end up getting GoGo SqueeZ all over my fur before the end of the night.  Thanks a lot for the SqeeZ, baby J.  You left me feeling both fashionable AND fruity.  This is her I’m guilty look.

As you can see, I’m still smiling ear to ear despite having been squirted with baby food.  And that’s because my minifashionista, Juliet had just walked the runway.  No she wasn’t a hired model.  And no I promise I did not put her up to it.  All I did was let her roam the row knowing that it was best for this social butterfly to walk around saying hi to her fashionable peers than to try and restrain her on the wobbly director’s’ chair for the 30 minutes before the shows began.  Here she is making some fab new friends.

petite parade kids fashion week spring 2015 IMG_0826 IMG_0828 IMG_0829 IMG_0830 IMG_0831

People always ask me how I get Juliet to keep all her accessories on.  (My girl is always accessorized to the max…just check her out on my Instagram account @FabGabBlog!)  It’s not like I trained her or anything…the 19 month old just loves her purses, jewelry and hair pieces.  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  Besides.  Would YOU ever let go of such a fab purse???!

Then she gave me this mischievous look.

IMG_0832

And she was OFF!  Off to the runway that is! My little diva thought that was where she BELONGED.  And before you know it she was strutting her stuff in front of 100 people, sashaying and shantaying like nobody’s business!

petitePARADE Guests Spring Summer 2015_web pic-001 petitePARADE Guests Spring Summer 2015_web pic-002

My mouth dropped and I stood still – in awe.  I could overhear people in the front row remarking how she is still clutching her Chanel like she was Carrie Bradshaw.  And then she stopped and posed for pictures at the end of the runway like a true model should.  IMG_0834 IMG_0836

At about this point, I had caught up to her and was about to whisk her away but the photographers stopped me and demanded I let her do her thang.  So I did.  And to my utter shock, she modeled her outfit up and down the runway, straight down the middle with a casual, over-the-shoulder look thrown in every once in a while.

petite parade runway showIMG_0837 IMG_0838

Juliet loved her 15 minutes of fame! But then there did come the time when enough was enough.  (Really? J?  10 x up and down the runway isn’t enough for you??)IMG_3627

And so there goes, Juliet’s first runway debut.  Petite Parade, I’m sure you’ve never had such a petite model but if you ever need one, you know where to find us!

Stella got her groove back.  My loving husband gave me the weekend off knowing how much I love NY fashion week.  It is after all, my real, first love.  He volunteered to take the baby and himself to his parent’s place so that I could have the whole place to myself and have some alone time.  No poopy diapers, no mouths to feed, no one to look after but me.  This allowed me to luxuriate in all the things a mom never gets to do like sleep in, exfoliate and take a nice long bath.  Ahhhh!   As if that weren’t great enough, I also got to enjoy shopping for a new birthday outfit, see 5 fashion shows and hang out with a great (fellow mommy) friend.  That’s how I got my groove back.

During the day, I also attended what was the best NYFW lounge I had ever been to.  And I’ve been to tons during my 13?  14?  years of attending in NY, Dubai and LA fashion weeks.  Avant Collective (where most of the below pictures came from) did a fabulous job putting together a peaceful haven for fashion bloggers, editors and insiders.  The venue was modern and spacious (unlike the usual crammed in spots where everyone’s laptop and charging wires inevitably end up tangling up with one another).  The complimentary services were plentiful  (manis, massages, and even your own personal fashion illustration from Jane Paints Beauty!  And there was a beautiful gourmet chocolate bar, coffee and hors d’eouvres station care of Fika chocklad (which I’m savoring and devouring as I type).  Plus the staff and vendors were all wonderful.  It was really delightful to be there.

This post is about a month late, I know.  But better late than never!  I’m still trying to balance my time between personal blogging / branching out this business with mom and household duties.  Which reminds me, I’ve started a new FB page to correspond to the popular Instagram @fab_kids site I just created.  If you like fashion, wait ’til you see these minifashionistas!  Follow @fab_kids on IG and please like the new page, Fab Kids today!

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

I love fashion week in NY and I love fab kids and kids fashion so when Petite Parade decided to combine it all, I just had to be there!  Unlike the NY fashion weeks that hit Lincoln Center, this was refreshingly more carefree, less snobby and filled with innocent kid-filled-fun.  I was so glad to have brought my baby Juliet there.  She was very excited to experience this fashion rite of passage with me with her first runway show.

kids fashion week

Here she is wearing my fur shawl over her own black and white dress with her Mickey Mouse tights and wiglet.  Yes that’s a baby wig she’s got on there.  They’re all the rage in Asia but I have yet to see a baby wear one in NYC.  Perhaps she’ll start a trend with her fake pigtails.

NY kids fashion weekGotta love those chubby cheeks.  And yes, that’s a mini Chanel purse she’s got there.  She takes after me after all.  When we sat down, we saw so many like-minded crazed fashionistas and their matchy matchy moms that we sort of felt a comforting sense of belonging like we had just entered a fashion club to which we didn’t even know we were members.

mini fashionistas

This pretty little lady pictured above was also wearing her mom’s fur stole. Check out the front row scene across from me (below).  Pretty mommas and their mini-mes.  This was not your normal crowd.  Even in NYC where fashionistas abound, it is a rare sighting to find moms and their babies dressed to the nines as they all were.  The mommy and me crowd was so stunningly on trend and high fashion that it made even me risk getting whiplash with the constant head-spinning I had to do.  To be surrounded with other so-obviously-fashion-obsessed pairs normalized my penchant for all things beautiful.  And suddenly I didn’t want to ever leave.

fashion babies

My eyes were peeled for cutie sightings and I couldn’t help but admire these professional posers who took to the catwalk post-fashion show like it was their own stage.  Are they adorable or what?

And perhaps the highlight of Petite Parade’s people watching was the group of celebrity imposters sitting front row.  They looked like they came straight from the Oscars red carpet!  Can you identify the dopplegangers?

Oscar red carpet

That’s Jessica Chastain, Kelly Osbourne, Lupita, Pharrell, and Taylor Swift!  What a great celebrity sighting!  For more on Petite Parade click here  which reveals how much my favorite kid’s runway dress costed.

For those of you wondering what was in the goody bag this year, here it is!  It’s missing a couple nail polishes thanks to my baby playing with it during the photo but the rest is all there.

It was my 14th year of attending NY Fashion Week – that’s 24 seasons and counting, fashionistas!  This particular F/W 2013 season with the nemo snowstorm and with me being 36 weeks pregnant made it extra memorable.  It’s not everyday that you have to deal with hail, wind and ice along with kicks from within, pregnancy insomnia and the general inability to bend over.  Luckily I had a great team in place and less sponsored shows to manage in order to help deal with the 7 NYFW Moroccanoil sponsored fashion shows (down from 23 NYFW shows last season).  They literally did the heavy lifting for me.  I just had to safely waddle my way over.

Check out my blog’s FB page for the photos and Twitter or Instagram for some of the behind the scenes updates!

Today, after finishing up my behind the scenes work duties for Badgley Mischka, I raced to the show next door within Lincoln Center, for Vera Wang (or as fast as my pregnant waddle could let me).  And I was surprised to see this one very fashionable front row guest sitting all by her lonesome self.

Where was her Vogue entourage?  And what was she doing arriving so early as the first and only guest?  Hadn’t she heard of being fashionably late?

The paparazzi certainly took notice.  Flashbulbs surrounded her which is when I snapped the above shots while in amazement of my lucky Anna Wintour sighting.  When most of the paparazzi craze died down, without hesitating, I impulsively asked her whether I could have  a picture with her.  Knowing this would be my most major NY Fashion Week highlight, I suddenly wished I could call back one of the pro photographers to snap the shot for me but  alas, I was left with my one-handed outstretched arm for the below amateur photo.

Fashion orgasm!  I don’t even smoke and I felt I needed a cigarette after this encounter. Little does this woman know that I once spent a painstaking hour last fashion week, waiting out in the cold after a brutally long 16hour (fashion week) work day to catch a glimpse of her and have her sign my September Vogue.  (read all about it here)

I left wondering how such an A-lister could be so foolish as to show up so prematurely at a NY Fashion Week show.  Doesn’t she know she is prime prey for fashion-crazed stalkers like me?  🙂

Thanks Anna!  You made my day and made this fashion week all that much more memorable!

Glamazon.  Fashion Goddess.  That is how I might describe Anna Wintour in just one or two words.  So when I had the chance to wait in line during Fashion’s Night Out in NYC’s meatpacking district for a seemingly endless, unknown quantity of time, just for the chance to get a September Vogue magazine signed by her, I soldiered on like any faithful fashionista would.

I must have asked 5 security guards, and every staffer around about when her highness was supposed to show up.  But nobody had a clue.  And after 20minutes of testing my balance on stiletto heels (while trying not to slip through the cobblestone cracks), I started wondering if this all was a QVC hoax.

Great crowd.  Great buzz.  But where was Anna?  All the frustrated fashionistas around me searched through every social media outlet they could in order to play a Where’s Waldo sort of game.  Has anyone spotted and tagged her?  Does anyone know what other events she was booked to appear at?

Then suddenly out of the crowd came this halo of style and it was almost as if the heavens had parted and the harps had announced her arrival with the sound of music.  We knew she had arrived. (cue the music)

Suddenly, everyone in line straightened their posture and you could audibly hear the hearts thumping with excitement.  I for one might have trampled over others had it not been for the foreboding security guards demanding people progress one-by-one in a uniform line.

How I didn’t scream out loud with delight still boggles my mind because as I approached her to tell her my name (we were instructed that we were only allowed to tell her our name with a strict policy of no pictures allowed), she greeted me warmly and with a compliment.  “You look great!”

“So do you!” was my stupid answer as I quickly remembered the instruction and obediently gave her my first name.  “Stella.  s-t-e-l-l-a”.  On the outside I was beaming.  But on the inside, I was growling at the guards in disbelief that I was prevented from taking a picture of this very proud moment.  “Anna is signing my Sept Vogue and I can’t even capture this image!” grrr

But I did manage to snap a few shots of her signing other people’s magazines before getting shoved to the side by more guards who pushed me out of the way.  And of course, here is my cherished issue!

I nearly skipped all the way home grinning ear to ear.  So worth the wait!

The Style 360 lounge at the Metropolitan Pavillion didn’t just house the Bebe fashion show which I wrote about here, it also showcased this fun photo opp by New York Post, giveaways, and these cute cupcakes.

Darling, aren’t they? You know how I love bows.

The New York Fashion Week photo opp sort of reminded me of last season’s Daily photo opp where fashionistas were encouraged to pose in front of a fake Daily cover.

During the week, I collected a bunch of fashion week goodies – all to giveaway to a lucky FabGabBlog reader like you! Look out for my next post which will give you a chance to win a New York Fashion Week goody bag.

Til then, here are some photos of goodies from seasons past…

From attending NY Fashion Week, I spotted some continuing trends from as far back as fall 2011 and earlier.  One of the continuing trends was the cropped pencil pant which I just adore.  Bebe’s fashion show was a case in point.  You can expect many more slim, cropped styles in prints and solids.  Here were a couple of their basic black options.

Check out my video of the finale below
or view the full-length video shot by Bebe here

I own plenty of Bebe myself so it was exciting to have been able to have scored a front row seat.  All in all, I found the madmen – inspired fashions ladylike and very fabgab.  You may be seeing a few of their pieces in my closet and style diary soon!
