Fab Fetes: Paperless Post

First impressions are important and invites are your event’s first impression.  So when I came across Paperless Post, (think designer evites), I couldn’t wait to throw my next fab fete.

They bring design and fashion to the world of online invites – something Facebook and Evite invites sadly lack.  AND they let you customize the colors, fonts, wording and envelope liner.  What more could you ask for?

I’m planning to use these for my change of address, holiday cards, and engagement party invites – yes I said engagement because I just got engaged!!  FabGabBlog readers will soon be hearing and seeing a lot more about wedding planning in this blog!  (I’m thinking about using the cute black and white bowtie design for my engagement party invite.  It’s not too masculine, not too feminine and adds just the touch of fanciness and elegance that I’m looking for.

And thanks to Paperless Post, all you FabGabBlog readers can enjoy the 25 free custom evites! Enjoy!

FabGabBlog is also giving away a vintage dress – click here to enter to win!

Style Diary: Inspired by Olivia Palermo

Do you ever see someone’s outfit and get inspired to wear something similar i.e. copy someone else’s look?

I find that this sometimes happens subliminally.  You see a red dress on a co-worker and for some reason the red dress in your closet pops out at you the very next day.  Sometimes though, you admire someone’s outfit and pick it apart, analyzing the pieces that correspond to your own wardrobe, teaching and reminding yourself that you could create a similar look.  That’s what happened when I ran into this photo of Olivia Palermo – one of my style inspirations.

I was inspired by this because though I’m a fan of the cardigan+dress+belt work look, I would not have thought about pairing the camel color with the black/white dress.  So here is my Olivia Palermo inspired work outfit using my own patterned black and white H&M dress (bought on sale for $15), paired with a vintage belt and camel colored cardigan from Express(bought on sale for $19.99).  Booties are from a NY boutique.

The necklace is from Bloomies.

Can you see the inspiration?  What do you think of my outfit?

And if you haven’t already, don’t forget to enter my blog’s vintage dress giveaway!

Office Space

Working in events marketing and promotions means my workplace is filled with random objects.  Besides the lookbooks, catalogs, signs and brochures, various non-traditional office items can be found.  Here is an exemplary list of things that make my office a famous stopping ground on the way to the company cooler.

  • wigs and costumes (for street promotions – I had an entire closet bursting with this stuff at my last workplace which made everyday seem like Halloween and made everyone want to stop and play dress up)
  • clothes and accessories (for fashion shows which make me crave a “you can look but don’t touch” sign)
  • CDs (I often double as the event’s DJ and have to choose the music for special events.  Finally, my age-old Columbia House membership has come to good use!)
  • raffle baskets and prizes galore (this could mean anything from a giant Estee Lauder beauty basket sitting on my desk to giant stuffed animals sitting in my extra chairs)
  • fake mustaches, top hats and other crazy props (for a photo booth, not for me.  Really.)
  • tiaras and princess rings (for a kid’s princess party.  Again, I have the silliest time convincing others that these are not for me but for a future work event.)

Naturally, co-workers are tempted to interrupt  me at every walk-by.  They can’t seem to resist inviting themselves in, trying on a tiara or top hat and giggling their way through each new discovery.  I’ll have to post pictures of my office area at some point so you can see what I mean.  But ’til then, I thought I’d post some pretty photos of work spaces that have me yearning for a little more organization and inspired storage space.

Eileen Josephine on Flickr posted the above photo.

Above and below are images from “decorology” on flickr.  It looks like we’ve got a craft-er here.

Now if only I could figure out a way to store all my strange office stuff without inviting the constant curiosity-peeked interruptions….

Tell me, what does your work space look like and what are your tips on keeping it look tidy and neat?

Fab Fete: Halloween Party

For those of you gouls and goblins looking forward to Halloween, this post may just inspire you to host your own Halloween soiree.

Here’s how to glam it up at your next Halloween bash without having to rely on the traditional orange and black theme.

All these stationary sets are available through TomKatStudios on etsy.com.  Isn’t it great that you too, can achieve such professional presentation all with the downloadable click of a button?  My last post listed my favorite free printable party downloads.  The ones shown here are available at half-off.

I just love how TomCat perfectly pairs one of my favorite prints, damask with some elegant touches of black and white with a pop of purple.  THIS is how an adult halloween party should be decorated!

The party circles are so versatile.  They can be f&b toppers, envelope stickers, labels and tags.

Here’s how TomKat’s team put it all together.  I like the dessert table below but could have done without the sconces and bat trim.

All above photos are from Laura Winslow.

I’d decorate this party with black feather wreaths and garlands from Pottery Barn- maybe use the feather garland instead of the bat garland pictured above?

I’m also loving the idea of black chandeliers with this dark, glamorous party.  Here’s my fashion meets decor collage for this party.

What do you think?

I’m going to be in Germany for Halloween this year, so this halloween party is simply a fantasy for me.

Fab Freebies

Everyone loves a freebie.

This post’s Fab Freebie is all about DIY templates and downloads.  Everything from stickers, to candy bar signs, to monograms and invites are available online in free downloadable fashion now!

Check out the Weddingchicks for some of my favorite templates, monograms and signs.  They have this cool function that allows you to customize the colors and satisfy your need for instant gratification with a quick email back to you with your free download.

My idol, Martha Stewart surprisingly gives out free downloadable DIYs online too.

And the queen of DIY free downloads is IDIY.

I was quite impressed with their selection of free downloadable invite templates shown above.  Check downloadandprint.com for more!

What do you think?  Would you use these?

For events with minimal budget (which is what I’ve been planning for work these days), these downloads are an invaluable resource!
