My new mommy lifestyle has caused me to re-evaluate my wardrobe. What was once perfect for my fashion career no longer seems relevant for my push-the-stroller-around-town days. Take for instance my suits. I have no occasions on my calendar for which I need to wear any of these anymore. I decided I needed to add more casual pieces to tone down my mostly work-related pieces and I knew I could make individual pieces from my closet still work and look more casual. First on my list of shopping to dos was to find myself some stylish tees. Cotton is great because it is so low-maintenance. If baby drools or spits on it, I can simply throw it in the wash and forgo dry cleaning bills.
I then ran into Uniqlo’s new collaborative effort with MOMA where artists famous works were printed onto easy-to-wear tees. I loved the 5th ave window displays and felt compelled to go in. Wouldn’t you??
The collection consists of 200 items inspired by artists like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Keith Haring tee with “New York” printed on it caught my eye and was one of the ones I came home with that day. Below I styled it with a simple mini skirt from Daffy’s (a now defunct discount retailer in NYC) and booties from TJMaxx.
I have a bunch of pencil skirts that I needed to make more casual (this one has a damask pattern and texture which you can’t really see here) so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to pair it with a tee. Below I styled it with a crystal necklace from Off 5th and a hat from TJ Maxx. The shoes were bought at Saks while an employee there and therefore bought with my employee discount.
And lastly, I created a super casual look with some Joe Fresh leggings that I found on clearance for $1.50 and an old newsboy cap from my closet. The high-heeled sneakers were purchased from this great discount shoe site my husband of all people found called 6pm.com.
All outfits on this post were $100 or less (not including the Chanel purse of course) and go to show you that you don’t have to spend a lot to have a lot of variety in your outfits and achieve totally different looks.
I’ll try to post another time about the other tee I bought while at Uniqlo next!

I’m not normally a fan of yellow but somehow this sunny yellow JCrew skirt spoke to me. And it’s refreshingly versatile. Pair it with a neutral like I did in the first picture below and immediately it helps tone down the outfit. (Lipstick scarf, lace top by Ellen Tracy, flats from JCpenney).
Or wear it with black and white and a pop of color. (Zara shoes, Chanel purse, Bettes B, TJMaxx hat)
For work, I might wear it with my metallic and black Zara blazer as shown below. Spiked necklace is from TJMaxx and the gold studded tank is from Century 21. P urse is Chanel and heels are Dolce Vita from Saks.

Which one is your favorite outfit and would you wear such a bright, sunny yellow?
By the time I started showing, I had to wear coats. And so for months, I rarely succeeded at scoring a subway seat. Finally though at 31 weeks, I think I’ve learned the trick. Open coat, stick out belly, stand in front of seated men and look exasperated as possible while holding belly. Usually works!
Here are 3 outfit posts of what I wore to work, all worn with my Ann Taylor leopard coat.
Tahari dress, Express cardigan, Bruno Magli boots, Fur stole from Saks Fifth Avenue, Guess purse
Cynthia Steffe dress bought at TJMaxx, Bruno Magli boots, necklace from Thailand
Calvin Klein dress, necklace bought at TJMaxx, Cynthia Rowley cashmere cardigan
Cut 25 blazer with leather elbow patches, maternity leggings from Target, Bruno Magli boots, velvety tank from TJMaxx, accessories from Thailand
Forever 21 top, maternity skirt from Target, Zara infinity scarf, Guy Laroche belt
W118 shirt, Charter Club cashmere cardigan, Prada purse, Target maternity leggings
I’m now officially in the 3rd trimester and can’t believe how fast it all went by! I’m frightened to think that I still have another 11 weeks of belly growth though. I already feel like there is no room to breathe or eat with the baby taking up all this room and my skin not stretching fast enough. help!
2012 was an exciting year for me:
- became an owner, no longer renting
- changed last name to mark the 1 year (paper) anniversary
- changed jobs
- traveled to Thailand, Cambodia, DC, MI, PA, DE, IL (twice), Japan, Vegas
- explored Governor’s island, Fire Island and Long Island
- attended 3 weddings. saw ours published.
- sponsored 25 fashion shows
- Managed over 100 events
- survived Hurricane Sandy
- Thanks to the pregnancy, learned to live with nausea, vomiting, hunger, heartburn, cravings, congestion, constipation, fatigue, headaches, sleep deprivation, dehydration, endless doctor appointments and an additional 18lbs
Figuring out what to wear to work while pregnant has been a daily challenge. What fits one week may no longer fit the next. Here is an outfit from around 26 weeks pregnant.
H&M cardigan, Donna Morgan dress from TJMaxx, Aldo purse and Via Spiga shoes
I hope you all had great years too and wish you the best for 2013!
Do you ever look through your wardrobe and feel totally blah thinking you have absolutely nothing to wear? Well change it up! Shop your closet and re-style what you already own. Wear the outfit with different shoes, and accessories. Add a blazer, a scarf or a cardigan. Think about how to belt it differently and what other colors would match the current palette.
That’s the idea behind my Style Diary series where I style 1 dress, 1 skirt, 1 top multiple ways. Here’s a new example using my versatile, camel- colored Shoshanna dress bought at Saks. The classic cut and neutral color lends itself as a timeless basic that I can wear endless ways.
Today (at 6months pregnant), I wore the dress all layered up cuz darnit it’s getting cold in NY! The brown tights featured here however were not made for my giant belly. Therefore, the waistband kept falling for it failed miserably to stay anywhere near my my protruding belly. Unable to stay afloat on top of my giant waistline, slowly through the day with each step, the waistband rolled lower and lower and lower.. so much so that the crotch was practically between my knees making me feel like I had just taken a dump in my tights. Note to self, invest in some maternity tights! Here I am looking perturbed just thinking about how uncomfortable the tights were.
Pictured above is the Gianfranco Ferre fur-trimmed swing coat that my mom loaned me over Thanksgiving break. I topped my outfit today with it. It’s the perfect maternity coat since it will grow with my expanding belly! The suede chocolate booties were a TJMaxx find.
For a spring-ier look, I added this coral scarf that I bought in Thailand, a contrasting lime green clutch and spikey leopard heels.
These shoes are KILLER. They’re sexy, edgy and dangerous weapons for your feet. Mostly though they will KILL your feet! I can’t stand in them for longer than 1hour before wanting to wimper in a corner and beg for a massage. Alas, they’re so beautiful I can’t get rid of them either.

Thank God I’m over the first trimester days of constant nausea and always wondering when my next vomiting episode was going to be. Those were the days when I had to stock up on all things ginger just to keep my stomach from rumbling out of control. I bought ginger candy, ginger tea, ginger soda and ginger entrees. I was so paranoid that I would have an unlucky episode in the middle of a meeting that I would actually bring my own ginger tea bags to my conference calls and work meetings. I bet everyone at work must have thought I was some ginger-crazed Asian when I first started working there (and had not yet told anyone of my pregnancy).
Being that it is all relative I now feel great in my 2nd trimester. One of the items that I bought while shopping for my new body was this fur vest from Jones New York at Macy’s.
I first wore it during my 4th month of pregnancy with my cowl-neck camel-colored top from INC and some coated skinny jeans that I bought at TJMaxx.
With a much bigger belly today I wore it with my Zara sweater top, maternity skirt from Target and booties below.

Here’s a belated style diary post from this past summer before my pregnancy and belly bump. Ahh, how I already miss the days when I didn’t have to worry about my clothes fitting around my ever-growing waistline!
I remember that on this very hot summer day, I was getting dressed to sign the final papers on our new apartment. It was an exciting, momentous occasion, one where I needed to commemorate with the perfect corporate yet not too stuffy outfit – something that wouldn’t make me melt in the hot sun and also let me celebrate this occasion in a fun way.
The suit is from Lord & Taylor and is by Love Ady, the purse and shoes are from TJMaxx (purse Cynthia Steffe), and the necklace is from Jcrew.

I should be able to post more frequently soon now that I have finished my move and am almost done sorting through my 10years of accumulated belongings. The moving in process is sort of cathartic in an OCD sort of way. I’m constantly obsessing about my new decorating plans while I compulsively buy my way through Bed Bath & Beyond, TJMaxx, online wholesalers and Century 21. I spend my days editing out unwanted items from my past while carefully selecting what to highlight and project into my future. Because of my love for organization and disdain for clutter I can’t simply dump a box’s contents into a drawer. I take inventory of my belongings before systematically figuring out an orderly plan and display method.
Right now, my latest project is that shoe closet I once shamelessly revealed on my blog. I’m painting it fuschia, my color of the moment and I’m literally waiting for the paint to dry before I celebrate by adding my Imelda Marcos-like stiletto collection. Moving in, settling in and decorating is my labor of love.
